So what is a road trip like in Central African Republic? I wondered before. Now I have made a few of them. I find them enjoyable, because there is so much beautiful countryside and forest to look at. The natural views are really nice.
Going out of Bangui there is a paved road, but it doesn't last too long. After that, the trip can be very bumpy.
Here are some pictures from our last road trip, returning to Berberati from Bangui. The trip started out happy and calm, as we began the drive on the paved road leading out of Bangui:
Suddenly, we heard a tremendous BANG! The Zubots' vehicle had a tire blow out. I mean, it really blew out.
It was kind of in the middle of nowhere, but we were still on the paved road. So we took a little break there beside the road, and the guys quickly replaced the tire with a good one.
Later in the day, we filled up with gas in the town of Baoro, one of the very few gas stations along the 600-kilometer route we were taking. There, curious children flocked around the car to gaze in at our windows.
The rest of the trip went well, though on this dirt road, I'm not sure you could say that it went "smoothly." We came across interesting animals in the road, but thankfully did not hit any of them.
And having left Bangui at 4:30 a.m., we arrived in Bangui at 5:30 p.m. just before sunset. A successful African road trip!

I LOVE these pictures!!It really gives us a sense of the place!
