Substitution

Here is a good poem that succinctly describes a essential concept of the Gospel...substitution. All the horrible things that should eternally happen to us because of our sinfulness was put on a sinless Jesus on the cross, so that instead of being treated like our guilt demands, we are treated as if we lived the perfect life of Christ. And you receive all the benefits from that substitution just simply by trusting in it. Good news, huh?

He hell, in hell laid low;
made sin, he sin o'erthrew;
Bowed to the grave, destroyed it so,
And death, by dying, slew.

-S.W. Gandy
