reformation day reflection

Today marks the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther presenting his 95 theses against the selling of indulgences by the official Church. It's a day to remember and thank God for not just Luther, but for many remarkable men and women who, over the course of what has come to be called the Protestant Reformation, lived and died for their faith. We owe much to them for their boldness in living by, and in many cases dying for, their conviction that God's great grace is extended to us through no work or merit of our own.

It makes sense that some of the great reformers were some of the great Bible translators! They wanted people to read the simple and beautiful Gospel truth in their own languages, that people could see past the roadblocks that representatives of the Church were putting in their way, and could find joy in a simple faith in Christ and all He had done for them.

May we continue in their footsteps: sharing the word of God with people in their heart language, trusting the Spirit to do His work: everything is from Him, through Him, and to His glory!
